Recently my mom and I laughed over trendy psychological
diagnoses. As she said, “We used to be bipolar, then we were ADHD, but now
we’re all Aspergers!”
I hold a degree in Psychology, so I recognize the usefulness
of diagnoses as well as the need for therapies to help people cope with life
and function in society.
However, it is high
time we celebrated our differences. Different is beautiful. Different is exciting. Without differences, we’d be a boring slab of vanilla ice
cream. Ok, I’ll admit, vanilla is yummy, but isn’t it better with strawberries
or fudge or maybe even French fries? (Or if you’re really out there, like my
little Jessie—kidney beans!)
